Neuro-divergent
Coaching & Training for
Lawyers

Reaching potential by recognising individual contribution.

An an Occupational Therapist, Behaviour Practitioner and Qualified Neurodivergent Coach who has identified a need for Neurodivergent Coaching and Training for Lawyers and Law Firms, and I’ve created a business doing exactly that.

In the 2024 Employee Census, 12% of Australians identified as neurodivergent. They are proven to gravitate in their droves to professions like Law, so every legal company employs neurodivergent individuals, whether they are aware of it or not.

The failure as a profession to openly recognise, and support these individuals not only limits their potential but also hampers organisational growth.

Neuro-diversity acknowledges that every brain functions differently, it’s just part of natural human variation.

It celebrates individual contribution and reinforces that there’s no single “right way” for a brain to work.

In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the benefits of neurodiverse perspectives in various fields. In fact studies show that a team can be 30% more productive if they have a neurodivergent employee.

Individual and team Neurodivergent corporate coaching is designed for professionals who want to use their 'Neurodivergence' to reach for the stars, and be the best versions of themselves. And for the teams who want to support those individuals.

Throughout my career, I’ve supported neurodivergent people to understand and manage challenges in their everyday lives.

My curiosity has evolved into a broader interest in how neurodivergent and neurotypical people shape our communities, and professional environments.

This is not only relevant in Law, but also other corporate sectors, however Law is somewhat slower coming to the table in this arena, compared to their counterparts such as medicine for example.

What is the reason for this we may ask?

The short answer is: fear, habit, and a very narrow idea of what “a good lawyer” looks like.

The longer answer is - there are a few overlapping reasons, and most of them are cultural rather than rational such as:

  • Law has a strong conformity bias thus Law firms were built on a template,

  • Law has an emphasis on “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” thinking,

  • In general they don't understand what neurodivergence actually is,

  • Fear of accommodation = fear of precedent,

  • Stigma is still alive (it’s just quieter),

  • Law firms, and those who inhabit them, are risk-averse by design,

  • There is a leadership gap, and many senior leaders are neurodivergent themselves, but are adept at masking.

In summary the quiet irony is that Law firms prize the following:

  • diversity of thought

  • strategic advantage

  • intellectual rigour

Yet they still constantly reject the very cognitive diversity that produces those outcomes.

At Annara we want to shift the focus beyond “inclusion,” BUT towards contribution and recognising and valuing how neurodiverse strengths can enhance a legal workplace.
